Back Bay Restoration Foundation, Virginia Beach, VA

In October 2006, Gingerprint joined forces with Ken Kolodner, one of the country's top hammered dulcimer and fiddle artists (and mentor of our founder), to produce a benefit concert for the Back Bay Restoration Foundation of Virginia Beach, VA. Through ticket sales, art sales and private donations, we were pleased to present a check for $500 to the BBRF, and sent an additional $150 from sales in January 2007.

The concert was held in conjunction with a week-long master class taught by Ken Kolodner, and featured Ken on hammered dulcimer, fiddle, and an unusual instrument called the hammered mbira. Derived from the African mbira or thumb piano, this instrument is actually laid out similar to a traditional hammered dulcimer and has a unique sound. Many of the students from the class also performed in the concert on fiddle, guitar, bodhran, and hammered and bowed dulcimers. This year's concert is scheduled for October 12 and will likely be held at the Sandbridge Community Chapel in Sandbridge, VA. Check back for more details in the Calendar of Events.
